Christy L. Haynes to Lead Analytical Chemistry Journal Starting in 2027

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has appointed Christy L. Haynes, professor at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, as the next editor-in-chief of Analytical Chemistry. She will begin her role on January 1, 2027, becoming the journal’s eighth editor-in-chief and the first woman to hold the position in its nearly 100-year history.

Haynes has served as both associate editor and executive editor of the peer-reviewed journal. Her research applies analytical and nanomaterials chemistry to agriculture, ecology, and toxicology. She is also the Distinguished McKnight University Professor and head of the university’s Department of Chemistry.

Jonathan V. Sweedler, who led the journal from 2012 to 2026, praised Haynes for her advocacy for authors and reviewers and her leadership within the journal. ACS Publications senior vice president and chief publishing officer Sarah Tegen highlighted Haynes’s understanding of measurement science and her inclusive vision for the field.

As editor-in-chief, Haynes aims to contribute to discussions shaping the journal’s research scope and the broader analytical chemistry community. Her appointment comes as measurement science continues to support advances across chemistry and related disciplines.
